The North Santiam River

Winding its way down the western slopes of the Cascade Mountains, the North Santiam River offers plenty of excitement for whitewater rafters of all levels. Located approximately 30 minutes from Salem, Oregon, this section of the river offers more whitewater than most other rivers. The Swirlies, Rock & Roll, Under Cover, Upper and Lower Escalator, Jaws, Spencer's Hole, Carnivore, Wedding Ring, and Mill City Falls are just a few of the many class II and class III rapids we will run. The half day run drops 27 feet per mile, which is more than both the Deschutes and Rogue rivers combined. The full day run drops 27 feet per mile in the first half and 23 feet per mile in the second section.

Besides Whitewater thrills, the North Santiam River offers excellent wildlife viewing, including Steelhead and Salmon, swimming, jumping, and spawning; Ducks and Geese, swimming with their young; Osprey, flying, fishing, and nesting; Hawks; many species of smaller birds; Deer; and usually a visit from a local resident's Rottweiler (He's harmless, comes to the waters edge, barks and watches us pass by)

We will also pass through some beautiful semi remote canyon landscapes, and view many nice homes along the river.
